BROADWAY IS COMING TO OSCODA -
THE SHORELINE PLAYERS ANNOUNCE THEIR FALL MUSICAL
In celebration of the 130th anniversary of his birth and as a tribute to George M. Cohan, one of America’s great patriots and showmen, The Shoreline Players will present Give My Regards to Broadway as their fall musical of 2008. The story-line was penned by Shubert Fendrich, but all of the songs (music and lyrics) are the works of the one and only George M. Cohan. The show includes some of his most memorable show tunes. “Give My Regards to Broadway,” “Only Forty-five Minutes from Broadway, “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” as well as “Mary’s a Grand Old Name.”
Set in the 1930's, Dick Foster is opening a Broadway show but is having problems with both money and his leading lady, Mona Monroe. Enter Mary Collins, an aspiring young actress from New Rochelle, and ‘Legs’ Ruby, a Damon Runyon-type bookie, who is on the run from the mob, (Mugsy, the gangster ‘hit man’ and Babs, his ‘moll’). Just as all appears to be lost, a financial ‘angel’ appears with the money to do the show, and Mary gets her big chance at stardom. The ‘show within a show’ gives us a brief glimpse of WWI and old-fashioned American patriotism, both on the battlefield and in the hospital. The story, combined with the music of George M. Cohan, will make for an entertaining, charming and toe-tapping evening of live theater. The production will be under the capable direction of Kaye Wergedal - Artistic Director and John Thomas - Musical Director, and is being produced by Sandy Schorfhaar.
Show dates are: Friday, October 31 and November 7 at 7:30 p.m.,
Saturday, November 1 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and
Sunday, November 2 and 9 at 2:00 p.m.
